This artistic research examines the notion of harmony both in music and as a social construct. With the interest to look for cultural practices that subvert Western common understanding of harmony. The focus is then on traditional music from non-Western contexts, in which music and its actualisation in public spaces serves a social function.
This artistic research took the form of online Listening Sessions, where an artist, musician or ethnomusicologist was invited to share a playlist of music that related to their own cultural background. During the sessions, the invitees would provide context for the different musics we would listen to, thereby guiding our listening.
